Three Madera Wineries Win People’s Choice Awards at Madera Vintners Association’s California Wine Month Event

Madera, California: On September 21st winemakers from across Madera County gathered at CRŪ Wine Company for the Madera Vintners Association’s “California Wine Month Reception & Wine Tasting.” On this evening, the association hosted its first People’s Choice Award in which guests were able to taste over 50 wines and vote for their favorite at the end of the night. The three award recipients were chosen in categories for best Dessert Wine, Dry Red Wine and Dry White Wine.

2012 People’s Choice Award Winners:

Dessert Wine & overall People’s Choice: San Joaquin Wine Company, Pomegranate Sangria

Dry Red Wine: Fäsi Estate Winery, 2006 Fäsi Crest Syrah

Dry White Wine: CRŪ Wine Company, 2010 Vineyard Montage Chardonnay

The People’s Choice Award was created to educate and expose the public to the high quality wines being produced in Madera County. With 14 wineries and over 50 wines participating in the 2012 event, the Madera Vintners Association is already looking forward to what next year’s wine competition will showcase.

“We are thrilled to have won this award in the Dessert Wine category and for overall votes. The Pomegranate Sangria is a unique blend of three of our own Madera wines, the primary wine being our Zinfandel. We are proud to have produced this unique wine that is so popular with consumers,” says Cindy Schafer, Co-Owner of San Joaquin Wine Company.

The Madera Vintners Association was comprised in 2001 as a collective voice for the area’s winemaking families. The association is dedicated to the common purpose of promoting excellence in winemaking from a region rich in potential through a commitment to modern winemaking techniques and sustainable vineyard practices.
